Crude Palm Oil (CPO)

Crude palm oil is obtained from the extraction or compression process of the fruit flesh (Mesocarp) of palm oil, generally from the ElaeisGuineensisspecies and has not been purified. Crude palm oil is different from Palm Kernel Oil even though they are produced by the same fruit. In addition, Crude Palm Oil is also different from Coconut Oil which is produced from the kernel of the coconut fruit (CocosNuifcera).

This difference lies in the content of each type of oil. CPO basically has a reddish color due to the high content of beta-carotene. Meanwhile, Palm Kernel Oil does not contain beta-carotene so that the composition varies from one to another. The difference in saturated fat content between Crude Palm Oil, Coconut Kernel Oil, and Coconut Oil is quite significant, respectively namely 41%,81%,and 86%.

For the record, Indonesia is the highest palm oil producing country in the world. Indonesia has succeeded in meeting the world’s demand for crude palm oil by up to 85%.
